Will Overholt

FSU Undergraduate

Major: Biology with a Certificate in Marine Biology
Graduation Date: Spring 2010.

Research Interests: “Uranium is a concerning groundwater contaminant across the US and throughout the world due to its radioactivity, toxicity, and the fact that it is highly mobile in oxidized environments. Currently the most promising way to remediate uranium contaminated sites is through stimulating microbial communities to reduce the mobile U(VI) to an insoluble U(IV) compound. I am interested in understanding how microbial communities respond to various reductants and how successful these manipulations would be for full site remediation.”

Projects: Bioremediation
Future Goals: To attend a graduate program in environmental microbiology.
